Hemorrhoid Laser Treatment: What You Need to Know

Published on July 2024

What is a hemorrhoidal disease?

Hemorrhoids also known as piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum or anus. This condition is one of the most common causes of rectal bleeding and discomfort during bowel movements.

Causes and risk factors

There are several factors that can contribute to the development of hemorrhoids:

  • Straining during bowel movements due to constipation or diarrhea
  • Prolonged sitting or standing, especially during pregnancy
  • Aging, which can weaken the supportive tissues around the veins
  • Obesity or being overweight
  • Chronic coughing or sneezing
  • Low-fiber diet

Types and grades

Hemorrhoids can be classified into two main types based on their location:

  • Internal hemorrhoids: These occur inside the rectum and are usually not painful unless they become thrombosed (clotted) or prolapse through the anus.
  • External hemorrhoids: These develop under the skin around the anus and can be extremely painful and itchy, especially if a blood clot forms inside.

There are four grades of hemorrhoids, ranging from small swellings to prolapsed hemorrhoids that require medical intervention:

  1. Grade 1: Slightly enlarged hemorrhoidal tissue that does not prolapse.
  2. Grade 2: Prolapse during bowel movements but spontaneously retract.
  3. Grade 3: Prolapsed hemorrhoids that require manual reduction.
  4. Grade 4: Prolapsed hemorrhoids that cannot be reduced and remain outside the anus.

Symptoms

The most common symptoms of hemorrhoids include:

  • Bright red blood on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl
  • Itching, burning, or pain around the anal area
  • Swelling or a protruding mass around the anus
  • Leakage of fecal matter or mucus discharge

While hemorrhoids can be uncomfortable and embarrassing, they are usually not serious unless complications arise. Seeking prompt medical attention can help alleviate symptoms and prevent further complications.

Laser Treatment for Hemorrhoids: How It Works and Benefits of neoLaser neoV Laser

How Laser Treatment Works

Laser treatment is an effective, minimally invasive option for grades 2-4 hemorrhoids. It uses targeted laser energy to ablate (remove) the hemorrhoid and seal off the supplying blood vessels. Key benefits:

  • Reduces bleeding by cauterizing vessels feeding hemorrhoids.
  • Promotes faster healing with less post-procedure pain.
  • Can be performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia.
  • Lower risk of complications compared to surgical hemorrhoidectomy.

The neoV Laser  Advantage

The neoV Laser  uses advanced 1470nm diode laser technology optimized for hemorrhoid treatment. Its precise energy delivery provides:

  • Effective ablation of abnormal hemorrhoid tissue.
  • Excellent coagulation of bleeding vessels.
  • Fast procedure times of just 15-25 minutes.
  • Minimal thermal damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
  • High patient satisfaction with relatively painless treatment.

The neoV Laser’s compact design and pre-calibrated settings make it easy for physicians to administer hemorrhoid laser treatment efficiently and safely in an office setting.

Ultimately, hemorrhoids can severely impact your quality of life. While home remedies may provide temporary relief, laser treatment offers a minimally invasive solution to effectively shrink hemorrhoids and alleviate symptoms.

The neoV Laser technology precisely targets abnormal tissue while preserving healthy tissue. Though recovery varies, most can return to normal activities within a few days. Of course, discuss all options thoroughly with your doctor to determine if laser treatment is right for you.
